Press Release - Twenty'8 - Check Dis! (Out On All Digital Platforms)
Written by: Mwathi Muriu-Gakonga.
On the 22nd of October - Twenty’8 releases his debut single ‘Check Dis’ a gritty and
addictive Grime tune.
Twenty’8 Aka. “Mr.Curbside Warrior” announces himself onto the scene with an infectious and greasy flow as well as his emotive tone and talented penmanship.
With his crazy flow, high-energy and bold lyrics this song sounds like a statement.
This sentiment is echoed by the words “Grime Is Dead!” being uttered in the first few
seconds of the track showing his jovial personality and hunger, Twenty’8 uses the next 2
minutes and twenty eight seconds to prove why that premise is wrong.
On the song itself Twenty’8 says “Check Dis reflects my musical influences and real-life experiences. "Growing up with a love for grime and eventually performing sets, all while coming from a street background, this track captures the release of frustration and anxiety I've faced as a Londoner.”
A student of the game or as he says from the “School Of Grime” this track delivers a fresh twist on a classic staple having a modern feel but still remaining true to the core elements of UK Grime, working alongside producer AR Beats (credits with the likes of G Herbo, Pozer & Shakes).
Originating from Peckham Twenty’8 is one of the upcomers from an exciting underground scene waving the flag for the resurgence of Grime and out to prove whyit’s never been dead.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Ruff Sqwad, Wretch 32 and Stormzy as well as Ghetts, Devlin and Billie Eilish as mentioned in his interview with ’Scoop’. He has a wide range of musical tastes although he can mainly be found making grime he’s a versatile artist. No ‘newbie’ to the game he has been putting in the work from freestyles to cyphers, open mics, performances and clashes he’s earned every bit of respect his name has and is ready to make it a household one. Previously appearing on Grime Pays, Pen Game and Spit Game as well as performing on BBC 1Xtra.
Twenty’8 is an MC of pedigree, ready to leave his mark and we look forward to seeing
what’s next...
